Assessment of Current Medical Guidelines and Clinical Practice in the Follow-Up of Ovarian or Adnexal Masses
Contact: Sally Beaton
Title: Senoir Research Associate

The purpose of this study is to examine the clinical practice patterns associated with following-up newly detected ovarian or adnexal masses. The data for this study is being abstracted from Lovelace Health System medical charts and the study is being conducted by LCF in collaboration with Macro, International in Atlanta and the CDC Division of Cancer Surveillance. In examining clinical practice patterns this study has identified 1,000 women 40 years of age or older with a newly diagnosed ovarian or adnexal mass. A thorough abstraction of clinical data (radiology reports, electronic medical profiles and paper charts) are combined with administrative utilization data to provide a comprehensive picture of post-diagnosis patient care treatment patterns. These data will be analyzed to answer key questions related to diagnostic testing/treatment patterns. Approximately ½ of the sample of subjects has been abstracted, and ongoing abstraction is continuing.
